Outdoor Power Equipment Maintenance & Safety Tips

If it has been a while since you used a specific power tool, dust off the owner's manual to learn about the controls. If you have purchased a new piece of equipment, throughly read the manual to learn how to properly and safely use it.

LEARN THE EQUIPMENT

Clean equipment will run more efficiently and last longer. Before using your equipment, you will want to check for loose belts, missing or damaged parts and make sure that there are no frayed cords or worn wires. If you notice something wrong, repair it.

INSPECT AND CLEAN

Untreated gasoline left in a tank will deteriorate and can cause starting or running problems. Ensure that no fuel is left sitting in the tank for more than 30 days. If it has been a while since using your equipment, check for remaining fuel in the tank.

DRAIN OLD FUEL

For any outdoor work, you’ll want to dress safely and appropriately. Closed-toed shoes, goggles, ear plugs, jeans, and long-sleeve shirts are all good options for outdoor tasks.
